Gadgets

I love gadgets. If you know me, then you already know that. What you may not know is that I also am a hoarder.

I have all my cell phones from the past, oh, forever. Yes I have one of these in my closet. I have 5 computers in my house. Not all of them work, and my wife wants me to get rid of them, but I never have. I just keep them in the closet.  I save them for parts. And yes - I can use the parts and I do know what to do with them. I have thrown a couple of printers in the dumpster in the past however.

A better question is…what do you do with all your old electronics? Recycle them right? Take them to a place that says they will recycle them, because you don’t want to just dump them in the trash or landfill since they have some toxic materials.

I saw this on 60 minutes the other day and wanted to make sure you saw it too.

Here is a more thorough (and disturbing) exploration of these e-waste dumps shot in a Current TV video shot last year in the same region. If the video doesn’t show up below, CLICK HERE. And if that doesn’t work click this one and it will be the bottom video.

Maybe you should just keep them in your closet from now on. If you run out of space, I’d be happy to share some in mine…next to my 1996 cell phone!

Eesh, you’d think this would be better regulated! I seem to be missing how this is a money-making business? Burn everything down until it’s the basic metals, then sell that? It doesn’t really look like the recycling centers I learned about in 5th grade.
