The Wide World of Swindlers

Last night was one of those nights where I just couldn’t fall asleep. Usually I will get up and go play some xbox or watch TV. It has bee quite a while since I was up near 3am in the morning. It just so happened that last night was one of those nights. I had also forgotten what TV shows are on at 3am. There are a a few reruns, few old movies, and a very wide range of infomercials and a few Televangelists (which in this case would classify in the infomercial category). And what did I find through all my browsing of the channels…well it was our wonderful friend “Pastor” Robert Tilton (also known as the Farting Preacher). It has been a while since I’ve seen him. So I wondered what he was up to.

Anyone got some GasX?It seems good ‘ol Tilton was still up to his same old tricks. He was still on BET at 3am with his TV scam show “Success in Life” “ministry” (and I use that term very sarcastically). He was looking old too. No big hair. This time he had some new book or packet about being “Gods Million Heirs.” He also sends out trinkets that are “holy” and will give you financial blessings from God. It’s time for you to posses your inheritance people, just claim it. What I hate most about Predator Tilton (oops…I meant “Pastor” Tilton) is, beside the fact that he’s a false prophet and deceiving thousands of people out of their money, is that he specifically targets minorities, under educated, (gullible) elderly, and the poor. So I finally got tired of him and switched channels. (By the way, if you head over to Tiltons website you can find out how to pay your bills supernaturally…gee, why didn’t I think of that sooner)

a_evangelist_peter_popoff.jpgAnd what did I find a channel or two over but the “Prophet” Peter Popoff. I wasn’t as familiar with Popoff as I was with Tilton, since Tilton was in Dallas where I lived as a kid. But I soon learned a lot about him. He, like Tilton, is a false prophet who bilks people out of money by sending them trinkets and various other things. Right now it is his “Miracle Spring Water” and the promise of varying and vague amounts of money. Popoff was one of those faith healers who was outed in the 90’s. He would miraculously call out peoples name, address, diseases, etc. from the stage and then bring them up and heal them. It seems his prophetic voice from God sounded just like his wife Elizabeth. Who knew God really was a woman! He sends letters out to people on mailing lists he creates telling them of God’s coming blessing to them. Which of course is in the form of money. Of course the “Prophet” can’t give a specific amount, but rather says something like “between the amount of $1,700 and $17,000.” And he does this all in the name of God.

I don’t wonder how people become entangled. As a Christian Minister and someone with a degree in Psychology, I understand somewhat how these people fall into these traps. I do understand and at the same time I don’t. I don’t know how people give these predators their money all the time. And I especially don’t understand that even after the deceptions and lies these people tell have been brought to light that people will continue to this day to fall for the lies they spew out of their mouths. It’s amazing how much some of these people make in a year.

Only $5 - Act Now!On other news, if you will send us only $5 I will send you an anointed prayer cloth that you can use to get all the greedy material things you want from God. For an additional $5 I will send you two so that you and a friend can get your lucky pot-o-gold that the Lord really wants you to have. So send your money fast so I can get the prayer clothes printed (I mean anointed).

It is sad what people will believe. Jon just finished a book called “Counterfeit Revival” which discussed faith healings and such. It’s sick that there are people out there that will take advantage of others like that.
