My New Favorite Coaches

December 2nd, 2006 · 7 Comments

Here is a new song to listen to. It is from Third Day’s Christmas Offerings.

I have two new favorite coaches. They are - Bobby Bowden of Florida State, and Mark Richt of the University of Georgia. Before today I wouldn’t have though much about Bobby Bowden except that he is a good coach and has been doing it a long long time. I didn’t even know mark Richt’s name. But today while I was eating lunch there was the “Coach of the Year” special thing on ESPN2. Here is why I made this sudden change.

Mark Richt is a Christian. Back in 1986 a Florida State player named Pablo Lopez died. That year Bowden got Richt to come and be on his coaching staff to coach Quarterbacks. After Pablo died, Bobby Bowden had a meeting with his players. What he talked about was the Gospel. Bowden asked his players and his assistants if they knew where they’d spend eternity. It was that day, after a seed was sown years before while he was a player, that Richt came to Christ. So that is why I like Bowden.

Richt is a devout Christian. I just watched a show and I heard more about his walk with Christ than I did football. I also heard about what he teaches his players and whats important to him, and then read about him too. He’s now my favorite coach. I might even become a Georgia Bulldog fan because of him. Now why can’t Baylor get someone with that kind of integrity, character, and faith to be their coach? Nothing against Guy Morris. I like him. He’s doing a good job with football, but I’ve yet to see a report about him that calls him ‘devout’ to the Lord. And seeing as Baylor is a “Christian” school……..well, at least we don’t have Dave Roberts as our coach. (as a side note - Kevin Steele, former Baylor coach who I worked for, is now on the Florida State coaching staff under Bowden)

Why is “stay a teacher” bolded on your poll? These sound like good coaches. :)

Because you are looking at it from our house and that is the one I voted for.

So, when you vote for “None of the above”, it moves that item up, so now it should read “None of the above, or below.”

Also what is a stack, and why is it overflowing at line: 1487 everytime I visit your blog?

It doesn’t move it in the question. It moves it in the results. So, in fact, it should stay in the same place so you can vote correctly. And how are you commenting on my blog if you are getting a stack error?

    I get stack errors too.

@ Steve & Teresa - were you using Internet Explorer when you got the error?

And does anyone else get the error?

The problem has something to do with Internet Explorer. I don’t know what…I’ll see what I can do. Use Firefox and you won’t have the problem.
